An ordinary prince

I had early dim sum with a couple of friends today, and decided to try out Prince Restaurant (王子飯店) in Lee Gardens.  I had seen the name pop up a few times and saw pictures posted by friends, and this got me curious.  Besides, it was one of a handful of places open early enough for our requirements.

Baked barbecued pork buns (天下第一包) - pretty arrogant to be calling these the best buns in the world... taste was decent, but best in the world?  I'm not so sure...

Steamed scallops dumpling with vegetables (碧綠帶子餃) - not my favorite... the skin was too thick, a bit rubbery and completely bland in taste.

Barbecued eel with honey sauce (香燒脆鱔) - not bad.

Deep fried turnip pastries (蘿蔔絲酥餅) - these were decent with yummy filling.  The pastry could be a little better, though.

Pan-fried in XO sauce turnip cake (XO醬煎臘味蘿蔔糕) - pretty spicy thanks to the XO sauce.  Interesting to find these in smaller chunks with capsicums.  Not bad at all.

Deep-fried taro with assorted mushrooms (野菌芋蓉酥) - these were OK.

Steamed crystal prawn dumplings (露筍鮮蝦餃) - these were surprisingly good.  The skin was very thin and supple, and the interior was much more juicier than most of its peers.  My favorite item today.

Steamed egg yolk buns (黃金流沙包) - these were pretty good, too... nice way to end the meal.

We weren't very excited by the other desserts, so we adjourned to nearby Zoë for some coffee and cakes...
