It's been a while since I last met up with some old colleagues from Taipei, and I was looking for a place to have lunch that's not too far from the office. For a second meal in a row, I found inspiration from the photo blog kept by Peray. The photos here always leave me drooling, although unfortunately there usually isn't much in the way of descriptions. Anyway, I suggested that we meet up at Fresh Station (逸鮮棧) after looking thru the pics.
We decided to go for the more expensive lunch set, and I asked to have ingredients which have been flown in from Hokkaido.
We started with a simple salad, to help me with my daily quota for greens...
This was followed by a set of 5 nigiri sushi (握り鮨), which are:
Red bigeye (金時鯛)
Rock greenling (油子)
John Dory (的鯛)
Scampi (角蝦) - absolutely delish.
Cobia (海鱺) - seared and yummy.
The next set were "rolls":
Marinated salmon roe (イクラ)
Japanese green sea urchin (馬糞雲丹)
A trio of fruit rolls - papaya, melon and pineapple.
Grilled barracuda - I saw this on Peray's blog and this was pretty much the deciding factor. I'd never had barracuda before and wanted to try. This was pretty tasty, and the teeth of the fish were definitely pretty sharp!
Beef and tomato rolls - these were excellent. The sweet yet slightly sour flavors of the cooked tomatoes worked perfectly with the slightly fatty beef.
Poached mini-corn and cuttlefish - the corn was pretty good, and the cuttlefish was OK.
I was too full to have the miso soup - thanks to all the delicious pickled radish and cucumber that I munched on - but I did have the yummy fruit salad.
I thought this was a pretty good lunch, although I could have done with a little less food. Would be interested to come back and try their other sets.
