Countin' down the days and a few more meals left. Wanted to grab one last lunch at Fook Lam Moon (福臨門) since dim sum in Taipei is pretty dismal... at least from what I remember.
I arrived early and ticked off a few items on the order sheet. From experience I know one shouldn't order all the items in one go, as they will arrive at the same time - and I'll be faced with a pile of food in front of me. I ticked off 4 things for my first order.
Deep-fried taro and chicken pockets (雞粒荔芋角) - always a favorite. The filling was delicious, and almost outshone the taro exterior!
Steamed shrimp dumpling (鮮蝦蒸粉粿) - lovely flavors. Skin was done well but slightly wet on the bottom today.
Deep fried prawn spring rolls (雞絲蝦春卷) - soooo yummy. Loved the prawns as they were really tasty.
Deep-fried salt water dumplings (家鄉咸水角) - not bad, but the skin was a little more sticky today...
Sure enough, the first 4 items arrived within something like 10 minutes of each other. As we were pretty hungry, the food disappeared in no time. Subsequently I placed the order for the smaller second batch...
Puff pastry with char siu (蜜汁叉燒酥) - haven't had this for a while, but found this version to be inferior to many others out there as it was just too dry. Guess I'll save stomach space for other stuff in the future.
Steamed buns with lotus paste and salty egg yolk (蛋黃蓮蓉包) - yummy, sweet lotus seed paste balanced with a little salty egg yolk. The picture doesn't even do it justice...
We were done and stuffed within 45 minutes. Delicious, classic dim sum, fried or steamed to order. Gonna miss this a lot...
