The Specialist is town again and wanted some more Japanese, so I looked around for a new place to try. I had long heard someone rave about Honda (本多日本料理), so I thought I'd give it a shot. It also helps that the place is within walking distance from my office...
I decided to try out some sushi on the first visit, so I took the Take Sushi Set Lunch (握壽司午餐“竹”).
Steamed egg (茶碗蒸し) - not bad.
Olive flounder (平目) - nice and a little crunchy.
Striped jack (縞鰺) - yummy.
Yellowtail (鰤) - from the belly, with a nice sprinkle of white sesame.
Salmon roe (イクラ)
Sea urchin (雲丹) - pretty fresh.
Alfonsino (金目鯛) - with perilla leaf (紫蘇).
3-in-1 - this isn't the first Japanese joint in Taipei where I've seen chefs put together these sushi with 3 ingredients. Today it was fatty tuna with scallions (ネギトロ), salmon roe (イクラ) and squid (イカ). Interesting combo, and pretty detailing on the squid.
Handroll (手巻き) - with crab meat (かに), egg (卵), cabbage and mayo.
Red bean soup - very Taiwanese… would be more Japanese if they added a few glutinous rice balls.
This was not bad… I should probably try them out for dinner one of these days.
