I was hanging out with Tigger this afternoon when he asked me to join the family for dinner. Due to horrendous traffic conditions in a particular part of town, we decided to change plans and go to Fook Lam Moon (福臨門) instead. Can't really go wrong here...
Deep-fried frogs' legs (椒鹽田雞腿) - Mrs. Tigger's favorite, and something that she (and the rest of us) quickly devoured when starving…
Roast suckling pig (脆皮乳豬) - Tigger's favorite. My second favorite. It's hard not to like this for the crispy, wafer-thin crackling. Gnawing on one of the tiny legs was also very enjoyable.
The snake soup (菊花燴蛇羹) wasn't as good as I remembered. It seemed pretty clear and somehow lacking in ingredients. Once you add in the coriander, shredded kaffir lime leaves and chrysanthemum petals, you end up with a very fragrant bowl.
Stir-fried garoupa fillets (油泡石斑球) - I never really liked this dish, since it's kind of a waste of fish.
Braised tofu with mushrooms and choy sum (紅燒豆腐) - I was pretty full already, so didn't really touch the tofu… only the veggies on the side.
Fried glutinous rice with preserved meats (生炒糯米飯) - I always get excited when it's the season for this. I loooove this but could only manage one bowl tonight. I should just get this to go on my way home…
Tigger's got a sweet tooth, so we finished with some coconut jelly (椰汁糕).
2000 Réserve de la Comtesse - showing coffee, tobacco, earthy and minty notes. Drinking pretty well.
