4 star day: sushi takeout

Hello Kitty's been cooking at home a lot as we stay in and practice social distancing, and she really deserves a break.  So I figured that ordering takeout for dinner tonight would be nice.  Since I discovered only yesterday that Sushi Saito (鮨 さいとう) is doing takeout, I immediately pinged Fujimoto-san and asked about availability - as there are only very limited quantities available.  Thankfully I was able to reserve some for today.

Barachirashi (バラチラシ) - believe it or not, this was actually pretty filling, and there was a good variety of toppings layered on the rice.

We've got sea urchin (雲丹), lean tuna (赤身), Japanese tiger prawn (車海老), abalone (鮑), conger eel (穴子), gizzard shad (小肌), octopus (蛸), marinated salmon roe (イクラ), kanpyo (干瓢), egg custard (卵).

Was it as good as sitting at the counter and going through a whole series of otsumami (おつまみ) and nigiri sushi?  Not by a long shot.  Bara chirashi is something one makes by utilizing end cuts to cut down on wastage, which explains the size of the cuts.  Therefore it could never measure up in terms of satisfaction.  There's also the fact that it was prepared hours before I got to consume it, which meant it was sitting in the fridge for a while as the rice hardened.  In spite of all this, it was the best bara chirashi I've had in Hong Kong.

Given that I'm unlikely to sit at the counter of Sushi Saito anytime soon due to social distancing, I guess this is the closest I'll come to enjoying their product.
