Sunday night sticks
This was the second of two bookings I made more than 5 months ago, when it took me 88 calls to get through to Hidden (秀殿) to get a coveted booking. It has, like the other booking, been postponed due to government restrictions on dining. But at least by now, the government has relaxed social distancing measures and we are now able to enjoy dinner service out. We decided to invite Mr and Mrs Cane to join us, as it's been some time since we last saw them. And once again we were joined by their son, whose company we enjoy very much.
The great thing about this place is that everyone can order up whatever they want, without being forced to have items that other people ordered. And one can control the amount of intake to one's liking.
Miso cucumber (もろきゅう) - nice to start off with something so refreshing, before we get into all that deep-fried sinfulness.
Potato salad (ポテトサラダ) - good ol' memories from childhood.
Fried chicken wing (手羽唐揚げ) - no way we're leaving here without tasting this. That sauce is just magical... so I made sure everyone got some more on their wings.
Fried veggie fish cake (野菜のさつま揚げ) - Sankala's favorite.
Asparagus and bacon (アスパラベーコン) - it's been a while since I last had this... The combination just works.
Corn (とうもろこし) - truth be told, I probably should have ordered up another 2 of these... Love it when corn is fresh and sweet.
Pike conger (はも) - can't pass this up when it's in season.
Crab leg (かに足) - this never fails to please. The flavors of the ocean is always pretty intense.
One bite cheese fried (一口チーズフライ) - so simple. So much happiness from just this one bite of fried cheese.
Baby sweetfish (稚鮎) - never pass up an opportunity to have young sweetfish, with its bitter guts and head.
Pearl onions (ペコロス) - love the natural sweetness.
Scallop salmon roe (ほたてタルタルいくら) - introduced this signature dish to my friends, but of course they didn't eat it in one bite like I did...
Napolitan spaghetti (ナポリタン) - I figured that this would be a hit with the kid, as it's just so comforting. Too sweet for Sankala's taste, though... And Kraft Grated Parmesan Cheese is a must!
Special rich pudding (特製濃厚プリン) - we took the last two servings of this... and the other customer who wanted it had to leave disappointed. Sorry, there's just no way I was gonna be nice enough to share.
Qdamon Yuzu Sake Liqueur (くだもん 大分ゆず) - always refreshing to drink yuzu (柚子) liqueur.
Yoshimura Hideo Ginger Liqueur (𠮷村秀雄 しょうが酒) - nice and spicy kick.
Pretty happy dinner, but now I gotta go get myself a couple of more bookings when they start taking reservations by phone...
