It's our final day in home quarantine, and our first day of "work from quarantine". Thanks to mom's delivery yesterday, we were finally able to get started on the right foot at breakfast this morning.
With slices of white toast going into the Gudetama toaster, we were able to get the results originally intended. In addition to the "meh" face we are familiar with, the other toast actually shows somewhat of a smile on the lazy egg. This was really, really cute and ended up getting a lot of attention when I posted the picture on social media.
Sankala put the toast back into our toaster oven, adding a thin slice of processed Hokkaido cheese on top. I washed this down with the last capsule of Nespresso Rio de Janeiro Espresso. You can bet that I won't be drinking this crap coming tomorrow morning!
For lunch today we chose to finish up some leftovers in the fridge:
Pork dumplings with pickled chili peppers (剝皮辣椒豬肉餃), from Tseng Dumpling (曾餃子) - still pretty damn tasty.
Stir-fried rice vermicelli Hakka-style (客家炒米粉), from Longchuan Hakka Free Range Chicken Farm (龍傳客家放山雞莊)
We also finished mom's pickled cucumbers and ginger.
Working our way through the stash of veggies mom shoved into the fridge, we blanched some leafy amaranth (莧菜).
For our final quarantine dinner, Sankala wanted something more casual yet quintessentially Taiwanese. So fried pork chop from King Pork (金園排骨) it is.
Fried pork chop with curry rice (咖哩排骨飯) - great to have Taiwanese-style breaded and fried pork chop again. Love the combination with curry.
Deep-fried shrimp roll (蝦捲) - with chunks of water chestnuts inside.
Deep-fried tofu (炸豆腐) - with sauce made of soy sauce, garlic, and chili. Pretty nice.
Sankala made use of our combi steamer oven which has seen too little use over the last 10 years, and we had ourselves some chilled bamboo shoots. Didn't even need any seasoning as the sweetness and purity already brought enough joy.
Another very satisfying meal in quarantine, even though I ran out of wine...
P.S. At precisely 12:00 a.m. on June 28th, we left the confines of our apartment and went out to the 7-11 next door and re-supplied ourselves. FREE AIR AT LAST!
