Everything everywhere all in my tummy day 11: Hakata No.1

It's our last day in Japan, so we must start off with a good breakfast. After days of searching and failing to purchase one, I was finally able to grab an egg sandwich (たまごサンド) from a Lawson last night! I could finally complete the tasting of the egg sandwiches from the big three convenience store chains! Unfortunately this was also my least favorite of the three, as there seemed to be less filling compared to the others. The chunks of egg white seemed smaller, and while all the yolk was mixed in with the mayo, it just wasn't as creamy and satisfying as the one from 7-11.

This was also our last chance to eat some Amaou (あまおう) strawberries while being this close to the farms, so I bought 2 packs - with one pack holding berries that are significantly bigger. While size may not be everything, in this case the bigger strawberries were also riper and sweeter.

This was also our last chance to have Hakata-style tonkosu (豚骨) ramen, and we were determined to try the spot ranked No.1 in Fukuoka - Hakata Genki Ippai!! (博多元気一杯!!) We arrived shortly after the place opened at 11 a.m. and since it was a rainy weekday, it only took us 15 minutes to wait in line.

Cha siu and wood ear ramen (チャーシューキクラゲラーメン) - I was surprised at the amount of sliced wood ear given, but of course Foursheets is only too happy. But the biggest surprise was the milky broth, which appeared to be light but in no way bland. The fattiness wasn't obvious, nor was it heavily seasoned. It was pretty easy to drink and I can see lots of people being able to finish the whole bowl of broth. Now I understand why it's been voted No. 1 in town.

It happens to be vernal equinox today, so many traditional shops were closed in town, including most of those at Yanagibashi Rengo Market (柳橋連合市場). I guess I'm not bringing back any nice mushrooms for mom. We did manage to pickup another cute outfit for CC Dogcow, from the same shop where we bought the last outfit for Kuma the Asshole...

We had some time to kill before heading to the airport, but didn't have any capacity for more shopping or stomach space for any food. So back to Café Miel (カフェミエル) we went. This time we had enough time for me to order a siphon coffee.

We grabbed our luggage from the hotel and headed to the airport. Goodbye, Japan! We loved being back, and hope to see you again soon!
