MMA goose

A couple of friends are back in town and wanted a taste of local favorites. Since a number of cha chaan teng (茶餐廳) in Central would have difficulty seating more than 4 people at a table, I suggested that we do Yat Lok (一樂燒鵝) instead. After all, I'm pretty sure they don't get roast goose anywhere this quality back in Holland...

It was just last week that I bumped into Mr. and Mrs. Chu at the Michelin event in Macau, where she was a little surprised to see me. A couple of days later came the now-infamous "Central MMA" incident, where a rude tourist dared to lay a hand on her and the situation devolved into a street fight involving her two sons. I chuckled while watching the video widely circulated online, as I could recognize Mrs. Chu even with her back turned, and could see her stomp on her attacker while he was laying on the street.

I greeted her while we lined up waiting for our table, and she told me everything was fine. Obviously the incident was well-publicized and she didn't feel the need to elborate further...

Blanched morning glory with fermented tofu sauce (腐乳通菜)

Blanched choy sum with oyster sauce (蠔油菜心)

Half roast goose (燒鵝半隻) - with 5 of us the only sensible option is to take half a goose. There are enough mouths to finish the bird and it makes things easy for the restaurant. The "locals" were happy enough to leave the drumstick to our visitors.

Rice flour noodles in soup (瀨粉)

Roast pork belly (燒肉) - I rarely order this here but our visitors wanted some pork belly. OK la...

My friends were amazed at the quality of service we received... Well, I'm an old (in more ways than one!) customer and on friendly terms with the boss lady. I count myself lucky.
