Two days after the epic Isojiman Adagio tasting, I'm back at Tamanegiya (酒たまねぎや) to see Master. It's my obligatory visit when I come to Tokyo, and although I had already seen Master on this trip, I still needed to be here, sitting at the bar, surrounded by all the fridges and the sake inside. I need to feel that vibe, that feeling of familiarity. As I don't know exactly Master would decide to retire, I need to be here as many times as I can before I'm no longer able to come.
Bijofu Junmai Daiginjo Yumebakari (美丈夫 純米大吟醸 夢許), 2024, from isshobin - the nose was nice and fragrant, with a touch of sweet fermented rice lees, and a faint nose of banana, along with perhaps some muscat grapes. Pretty nice and elegant.
Dried scallops - the scallops were steamed and then dried out.
Tomatoes - from Aichi Prefecture (愛知県).
Saika Junmai Daiginjo Yamadanishiki (雑賀 純米大吟醸 山田錦), from isshobin - very sweet on the palate but slightly alcoholic and a tiny bit dry.
Azumaichi Junmai Daiginjo Shizukushibori Tobintori Show Selection (東一 純米大吟醸 雫搾り 斗瓶貯蔵 選抜酒), R5BY, from isshobin – the nose was really sweet, with lots of banana. On the palate this was sweet on the attack but turned dry in the second half.
Matsu no Tsukasa Daiginjo Junmai Shizuku Tobingako (松の司 大吟醸 純米しずく 斗瓶囲), 2007, from isshobin - really smooth and fresh for something of this age. Nice balance between somewhat sweet but then this was a bit dry later. So nice.
I had another stop to make, so I didn't want to drink more tonight. I joked with Master that this was the smallest check I've ever had here in my 10 visits. I bid him farewell, and hope to see him again soon.
We were meeting up with Geruhage and Tomo-chan separately, and they took us to Bar Toybox in the 'hood. As I'm in Japan, Imma order me some girly drinks!
Kumquat and perilla (金柑 大葉)
Apple and elderflower (リンゴ エルダーフラワー)
